Dortmans2 1National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan 48824-1321 2School of Physics, University of Melbourne, Parkville 3052, Victoria, Australia (Received 8 May 1997) Inelastic scattering data of 11Li from hydrogen at 68A MeV have been interpreted as the excitation of a state in 11Li at Ex 1.3 MeV, with an assignment of J 3 2 . Analysis of those data in a distorted wave approximation assuming transitions to three candidates obtained in a s0 1 2dh̄v shell model suggests an alternative nuclear shakeoff mechanism. Structure of the weakly-bound nucleus

The 6Li(t , 3He)6He charge-exchange reaction leading to the weakly-bound nucleus 6He has been studied at 336 MeV. Beyond the strong peaks for the known ground state (Jπ = 0+) and first excited state (Jπ = 2+, Ex = 1.8 MeV), a broad asymmetric structure around Ex ∼ 5 MeV has been observed. The angular distribution of this structure exhibits the dominance of a1L= 1 transition, indicating the exis...

The recently reported branching ratio (BR) for the 4+ state in 18Ne at Ex = 7.06 MeV strongly disagrees with the BR computed using the known properties of this state. We search for three-neutron resonances which were predicted from pion double charge exchange experiments on 3 He. All partial waves up to J = 5 2 are nonresonant except the J π = 3 2 + one, where we find a state at E = 14 MeV energy with 13 MeV width. The parameters of the mirror state in the three-proton system are E = 15 MeV and Γ = 14 MeV. The possible existence of an excited state in the tr...

HIGHLY EXCITED *Be CORE IN THE CONFIGURATION OF THE “C AND “B GROUND STATES

Angular distrihutions of the ‘rC(d, 6Li)8Be reaction at i& = 78.0 MeVand the 1’B(3He, ‘Li)*Be reaction at E,,, = 71.8 MeV were measured. Transitions leading to ‘Be in the ground state and the 3.04, 16.63, 16.92, 17.64 and 18.15 MeV excited states were observed. A DWBA analysis was performed regarding the (d, 6Li) and (3He, 6Li) reactions as direct LY particle or triton transfers, respectively. ...

Search for excited states in 3 H and 3 He

The lightest nucleus with a well-established spectrum of excited states is He. There have been numerous attempts, both experimental and theoretical, to identify excited states in A = 3 nuclei; for an extensive review see Ref. [1]. Although there are indications for resonance-like behavior in the 3n and 3p systems in certain experiments [2], others do not seem to support these findings [3]. Theo...
